Should you want to enjoy natural bathing pleasures or paddle leisurely across a lake, you will find some enchanting baths and lakes in the surrounding area. We present some of them to you.

Swimming is fun

Over 15 outdoor pools and bathing lakes are optimally equipped for small and large swimmers.

The Pottensteiner Felsenbad is the oldest outdoor pool in Bavaria and is located in a very impressive environment! The natural pool is located at the foot of an imposing rock face and is completely cleaned without chemicals through a planted natural filter area. You will find the bath about 500 meters outside of Pottenstein opposite the Schöngrundsee and the summer toboggan run at the adventure mile.

The special attraction of the high-altitude swimming pool in Gößweinstein is its location: The exposed hill at the entrance to the town offers a sensational view of the town with its pilgrimage basilica and castle, and yet it is only 250 meters from the town center.

The high-altitude swimming pool, which is operated as a natural pool, is embedded in intact nature and invites you to linger and dream. The terrain with its various terraces and bizarre-looking rock formations offers a variety of uses and unimagined enjoyment of nature. Water depth only 1.35 meters, children’s pool and sandbox with seesaw and playhouse.

The natural swimming lake in Heiligenstadt is located on the Leinleiter, west of Heiligenstadt. The natural bathing lake can be used free of charge. You will find a swimming platform as well as a Kneipp facility. In the immediate vicinity is the water experience path – an interesting theme trail with information about water. Car parking spaces are available.

The Schöngrundsee near Pottenstein is located in the so-called Klumpertal of the Weiherbach. Approx. 300 meters south of the Schöngrundsee is the entrance to the well-known Devil’s Cave. Whether with a rowing boat or a pedal boat, a leisurely boat trip on the Schöngrundsee in the Weihersbach valley is always worthwhile.
